In the US, a significant proportion of older adults drink alcohol at a high-risk level according
to the World Health Organization (WHO). The rise in alcohol use among older adults is associated with increased health risks. The present research study aims to help us understand the effectiveness of text-messaging programs in helping older individuals reduce their drinking.
More broadly, this study aims to contribute to the development of better interventions to help people reduce their drinking prior to needing treatment. If successful, findings from this phase of the study will inform our approach to the next phase which will test this intervention on a larger population of older adults.
